National Legal Aid welcomes funding for national innovative legal assistance projects

National Legal Aid statement on the announcement of the Attorney-General's Department's Community Legal Services program 2025-30.

National Legal Aid welcomes the Federal Government announcement under the Community Legal Services Program 2025-30 of $67.5 million over 5 years to national legal assistance peaks to support member services and continue several national services.

This includes funding for the continuation of flagship National Legal Aid projects amica, an online dispute resolution tool, and the With You trauma-informed lawyering training program.

amica is a multi-award winning online dispute resolution tool helping separating couples to resolve their family law disputes online without going to court and with minimal costs. It provides a service to cut legal bills, reduce pressures on family law courts, and ensure more separating couples have timely access to legal assistance and other support. With You is trauma-informed, rights-based training for the legal assistance sector in Australia. With You has provided over 200 organisations in the legal assistance sector with training on trauma-informed and rights-based practice. It was a finalist in the 2025 Australian Institute of Training and Development (AITD) Excellence Award.

With You and amica fill critical gaps in trauma informed training and family law resources for the legal assistance sector. We welcome this grant announcement as a step towards improving access to justice in Australia. This funding supplements the major Commonwealth agreement for legal assistance services, the $3.9 billion National Access to Justice Partnership Agreement 2025-2030.

National Legal Aid looks forward to working with the Federal Government and legal assistance sector to continue delivering these important national services.
